The Fire Horses began as a simple sketch. A playful shape. A curious expression. A horse that felt less like an animal and more like a personality.

Over time, these whimsical creatures grew into one of the most beloved series in my studio.

Part imagination, part memory, and part emotional portrait, the Fire Horses are a celebration of joy, individuality, courage, and wonder. Each horse carries its own spirit and story. In this series, those traditional qualities are reimagined through a more playful and contemporary lens.

Many of the horses emerge intuitively during the painting process. Their personalities reveal themselves gradually through color, expression, and gesture. Some feel like old friends. Others seem to arrive unexpectedly, bringing their own stories with them.

Process

Each Fire Horse begins with an intuitive approach rather than a rigid plan.

I start by drawing a simple outline of the horse with a pencil. Shapes are refined, details are added, and the unique personality of each piece begins to reveal itself. I then began to put paint to the canvas and let the details and personality come to life intuitively.

The process is highly responsive. I follow the painting rather than forcing it toward a predetermined outcome. Colors shift, expressions evolve, and compositions transform as the work develops.
